The arse-end of an edge-of-town Lidl is possibly the least promising location conceivable for an artisanal ice cream parlour. How cheap would the rent have to be to make this a good idea? And yet your eyes do not deceive you; someone has indeed taken the plunge - and created a local phenomenon that people are prepared to travel to. Portions are generous and quality mostly good - has the softness of real gelato but not quite the smoothness. Whether it's better than the ice cream shops in the town centre is debatable. But the omnipresent queue of customers suggests this place is the winner in a competitive field.
