The University Library is a great looking copper clad building close to the Copernicus Science Centre between the Vistula and the Royal Palace. There is a pleasant garden which can be accessed freely to the north-side of the Library. In the winter, it is a mixture of grasses, shrubs and trees. The garden stretches upwards to the actual roof of the building, but this is closed during the winter. There should be a great view from up there.

Nice and free place to chill out with beautiful garden, quite interesting architecture and cute view. It's close to the river and I believe you should definitely go to visit the university library.

A few steps back from the Vistula River, Warsaw University’s library is strange to behold from ground level: There’s a long and austere stone facade and a blue scaffold-like porch that could be from the Pompidou Centre. But up the exterior stairway is one of the largest roof gardens in Europe. Open from March to November, this one-hectare space is a little dreamland of fountains, streams, pergolas, arbours and lawns, while the library’s windows and skylights add a touch of the surreal. This is all the work of landscape architect Irena Bajersaka and opened in 2002. The city views are also fantastic, encompassing the Vistula, the recent PGE National Stadium and the Copernicus Centre.

The library is very good for studying, lots of space, the staff is very helpful and nice, but a little bit cold. Despite this, I am pleased that in Warsaw University has a great place to study even during the weekend. However, I am very unhappy with the canteen (foot court) which is located inside the building where the library itself. Opposite of canteen there is a Costa coffee where you can buy branded coffee, croissants, and many other delicious things and it is obvious that you are now allowed to eat there your homemade food. BUT I do not understand why the public canteen which is located next to the library and Costa coffee has the same rule of not bringing own food. This is not even a brand-famous canteen or cafeteria, but only food place where everyone can go and eat. For example, in other universities, there is no such rule that you cannot bring own meal because I would like to repeat it is just only Warsaw University canteen not a cafe such as Starbucks or Costa coffee where it is logically prohibited. I witnessed a student girl eating her own food in this canteen near the Warsaw library, and her friend ordered food in the canteen and one waitress who apparently was a typical worker with Ukrainian accent asked her to stop eating there. I was sad because of student cause she was eating and not doing anything. So my point is that some student just does not have a chance to buy food even in the canteen, and what was the point of prohibiting it to a student? My solution would be that a waitress could say to at least finish her meal and informed her about not eating own food there anymore.

A hidden gem in the city. An enormous green area with an unnumbered variety of plants. The rooftop of the university allows you to admire the city’s skyline and it’s equipped with many benches where you can chill in the shade. A quiet creek streams all over the garden ending in beautiful fish pond. You might find many students chilling around since it’s the university garden but it’s totally worth a visit

It is just amazing. Garden on the roof is very energetic. Nice to visit when you are in Warsaw as tourist. The place is free.

Oh i love the roof! You can even eat grapes here (it grows here), the view is nice. Atmosphere is romantic and good for working at the same time.
