AirVein Project is rated 3 out of 5 in the category airlines/aviation. Read and write reviews about AirVein Project. AirVein it is an innovative, UAV based, blood delivery system. This project is aimed to design and deliver a prototype of an innovative unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to be used in the world’s first complete drone-based blood transportation system. It will be dedicated to the Polish blood transportation system, coordinated by the National Blood Centre, responsible for the overall safety, processing and supply of blood preparations in the country. Currently, the civil part of the system relies on the blood donors, the blood recipients, hospitals managing administration of blood components, and the network of 21 Regional Centres for Blood Donation and Healthcare (regional centres) responsible for collecting, processing, storing and relocating blood and its components. With the AirVein system, we propose to deliver blood faster yet at comparable cost by dedicated UAVs that will not get stuck in traffic, raise the risk of accidents and road collisions or contaminate air with fumes and siren alarms. A drone will effectively deliver the blood transport to its destination, considerably reducing the time of getting help to the patients in need. Blood products can be considered the right use case to be a starting point for drone-based transportation systems. It is being transported in high volumes yet in small units, and it is time-sensitive. It saves lives and benefits the general public. It could be used to pave the way for other implementations in the future. Additionally, AirVein could complement the Polish nationwide IT system for blood management that is being built, which will provide real-time information regarding blood supply at hospital blood banks and regional blood donation centres.
