The Historical Museum of the City of Gdansk was opened in the restored Gothic and Renaissance building of the Main Town Hall of the City of Gdansk. There is a special part where it is shown how Gdansk had been damaged during the World War and rebuilt afterwards. You can find the information both in English and in Polish.

A few steps away from Neptune fountain, Gdansk Historical Museum offers interesting topics in addition to regular exhibition. One featuring the music trend in Poland after WWII was on display. Tour to the tower could be added to your trip, but the ticket office sales person did not mention anything...

Gdansk History Museum is a wonderful way to check out the rich and varied history of this fascinating city. Located in the stunning Old Town on one of its most famous and beautiful streets namely Ul Długa and housed in the magnificent Town Hall one of the most exquisite pieces of architecture in the Old Town, it's a great place to visit. For a small entrance fee you can view beautifully decorative rooms,a great silverware collection and soak up the rich history of this city ,it's not a big museum but it's size means you can take in most of the exhibits and if your not into the museum itself you have the magnificent views afforded from the tower of the beautiful city of Gdansk. Well worth checking out.

Great and informative museum. Usually doesn’t take more than an hour to visit. One can go all the way up to the tower to observe the city view. Greatly recommended!

Museum that is worth visiting when in Gdansk to see its collection of keepsakes presenting the history of Gdansk from the Middle Ages up to the 20th Century. This museum is located in the historic town hall built in the 14th century. The interior courtyard is amazing - the Great Council Hall and Red Hall with its impressive fireplace and ceilings paintings. The 2nd floor houses exhibitions related to antique furnitures and silver pieces. The top floor features imitations of old Gdansk interiors. Here you can also access the Town Hall's Tower Clock that is 81.5 meters high. It is worth climbing to the top of the tower for great views across the city. #letsguide, #poland, #gdansk, #visitgdansk, #oldtown, #royalroute, #touristattraction, #landmark, #museum, #townhall, #fireplace, #ceilingpaintings, #antiquefurniture, #silverpieces, #towerlock, #greatviews, #panoramicview

The opening times should be the time of last entry. It's actually 45 minutes before the times stated on the door.

Definitely include this museum in your to-do-list in Gdansk. It is located in the former (historical) city-hall, the 'red room' itself is the real highlight of this strong museum. This room alone is already worth the price for the museum. The tour starts in the main councilroom, followed by the 'Red Room' with its splendid ceiling. The best way to absorb this ceiling is actually to lay down on the ground. Other parts of the museum exposes beautiful furniture from the past (especially some wooden clossets are impressive), temporarily exhibition and finally an part about WO II. It takes max. one hour to visit this museum.
